Travelling in My Mind Project

Explore the evolution of digital art from 2022 to 2025.

It Begins

My Japanese Craze

Exploring Japansese Historic Books and Art

2023 was a big year for me in exploring Japanese historical literature and art — and I even ventured into manga. It all began in 2022 with a fascination for Samurai Art and Ukiyo-e, the art of the "floating world." A visit to the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities in Stockholm offered the sublime experience of seeing Ando Hiroshige’s woodblock prints in the Japan exhibition. During that journey, I also took several photos, which later served as backgrounds for my 2024 images.

That museum visit in October became a source of inspiration that stayed with me for a long time. The image in this section — Travelling in My Mind — was created using photographs taken during that October 2022 trip. They were composed with both intentional Japanese inspiration and a touch of good old luck along the way in Stockholm.

Photography, for me, is an intuitive art—an exploration of light, movement, and form. Inspired by Impressionism and Japanese woodblock prints, I love pushing the limits of the camera to see what it can create. My background in art history and darkroom photography has shaped my vision, but I’m always looking for new ways to evolve.

It Evolves

I love the play of light and shadow in Impressionism—incidentally, that’s what the Japanese call komorebi—the dance of sunlight through leaves. It’s said to be an experience that brings true happiness.

When I photograph my background images, I look for light and vibrant colours to transform digitally, creating unique backgrounds. These photos cannot be planned—they happen in the moment. And that is a challenge I wholeheartedly embrace.

2024–2025
The background of my 16th digital artwork originates from the same series of photographs that sparked Travelling in My Mind. These images remain special to me—they’re the result of a creative journey that began the day I first started studying photography and art history many moons ago.

I work with abstract backgrounds and use black silhouettes to tell my story. That approach isn’t new—I’ve always been drawn to silhouettes, whether found in nature, street photography, or portraiture. This project takes that long-standing fascination a step further, with a quiet nod to the artists who have most inspired me—those who, like myself, were influenced by Japonism.
